At the close of the 2024/2025 harvest season, Brazil’s sugar and bioenergy sector has set a new record in ethanol production, reaching 34.96 billion liters. Of this total, 8.19 billion liters were derived from corn ethanol.
Breaking down the production figures, 22.59 billion liters were hydrous ethanol, and 12.37 billion liters were anhydrous ethanol. This marks a 4.06% increase compared to the 2023/2024 harvest season, which had previously held the record for ethanol output.
The sector also recorded the second-largest sugarcane crush in its history, with 621.88 million tons of sugarcane processed by mills in Brazil’s Center-South region.
Sugar production, however, saw a decline—reaching 40.17 million tons, down from 42.42 million tons in the previous season.
Sugar and ethanol production in the second half of March 2025
Sugar production totaled 201.15 thousand tons in the second half of March 2025. During the same period, ethanol production reached 546.77 million liters, comprising 36.95 million liters of anhydrous ethanol and 509.82 million liters of hydrous ethanol. Of the total ethanol produced, 377.91 million liters were derived from corn.
