Solidaridad Network joins Brazilian sugarcane industry in retraining sugarcane cutters displaced by mechanization
SAO PAULO, November 10, 2010 - Solidaridad Network, one of the most prominent global non-government organizations supporting the development of sustainable production chains, headquartered in The Netherlands, is the newest partner of the RenovAção Project. The agreement was signed on Wednesday (November 3), after a meeting at the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association’s (UNICA) regional office in Ribeirão Preto, in the heart of Brazil’s most important cane growing region.
EPA Decision Should Signal End to Ethanol Subsidies and Trade Protection
WASHINGTON, DC, October 13, 2010 - In response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision today to allow 15% ethanol blends for 2007 and later model vehicles, an increase from the current 10% blend already approved for all vehicles, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) issued the following statement. More Than 23,000 Trees Planted in Brazil to Offset Emissions of IZOD IndyCar Season Opener
SAO PAULO, May 28, 2010 - All carbon emissions connected with the opening race of the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season – the São Paulo 300, held on a street course in Brazil’s largest city on March 14, will be compensated by more than 23,580 trees planted at the largest sugarcane processing mill in the world. The trees were planted based on a study by an independent consultancy, which quantified emissions produced by the São Paulo race and estimated the number of trees needed to offset those emissions.
